Welcome to the Student Media FlashLab.
Join us on a journey of ideas and innovation and help us build a better Kent State Student Media and become an innovator along the way.
We are seeking fresh ideas, big and small, to propel Student Media into an exciting future based around innovation, ideas and entrepreneurship.
In partnership with KSU's LaunchNet and Akron's Bounce Innovation Hub, FlashLab will have three key parts this fall:
- FLASHLAB KICKOFF - Friday, Sept. 28 from 4-7 pm in Franklin Hall (room TBD). Join other students from Student Media and across campus in a two-part kickoff. First, we'll have an open discussion with entrepreneurs and innovators working in the field to define innovation and get inspired. In the second part, we'll move to a networking event and an idea-building workshop, where you'll be able to work with coaches to develop ideas and find solutions in areas such as content creation, audience engagement, revenue generation and collaboration.
- STUDENT MEDIA INNOVATION PITCH. This contest is open Sept.19 to Oct. 28. We'll be accepting innovative solutions in the areas of content creation, audience engagement, revenue generation and collaboration. A panel of judges will pick finalists who will have the opportunity to pitch their idea to the judges. Winning ideas will be awarded a budget (from a pool of $5,000 to $10,000) to help implement the idea in Student Media in the spring semester. More info to come.
- IDEA GENERATOR WORKSHOPS. This will be a series of open and hands-on workshops and brainstorm sessions based around innovation and entrepreneurship. The first scheduled workshop is Wednesday Oct. 1 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Zach Mikrut from LaunchNet will lead attendees through a pitch building workshop. Food will be served. Other events will be announced as they come up.
FlashLab is open to any interested students, staff and faculty at Kent State as well community partners with the goal of making Kent State Student Media an agile, innovative and entrepreneurial media experience.
